Abstract
The storage capacity of the reservoir at the Göscheneralp earth-core rockfill dam is planned to increased by 15 per cent, by heightening of the 155 m-high earth-core rockfill dam. The extra capacity will provide for greater flexibility in power production at times of peak demand. After an outline of the characteristics of the existing dam and its long-term behaviour, this article discusses the conceptual and detailed design of the dam heightening scheme, and the construction aspects.
