Abstract

Phytochemicals, including essential oils (EOs), represent a good source for bioactive drugs and are therefore widely used in animal and human health and nutrition. Interestingly, detailed information about possible negative effects is often lacking. Hence, the toxic potential of phytochemicals might be underestimated, as natural compounds are not necessarily safer than other products.
