Abstract
This contribution describes a project-oriented approach to the playful design and technical development of digital musical instruments to promote interest in STEM and music in the classroom. Building on the experience from the classroom, an approach for pre-service teacher training is described that abstracts the course of the project for teacher education students. A university teaching unit in the context of research-led teaching is presented, which consists of a scientific lecture on the project, the practical testing of digital musical instruments and instruments created by pupils in the project, the construction of their own simple digital musical instruments and performing with them.
