Abstract

There exists a bundle of visualization options for decision-making purposes, however, there is a lack of evaluation methods. Eye tracking is said to be a promising approach in this context, as it allows going beyond traditional task time and task accuracy measures. Eye tracking supports the data collection on the scanning behavior of the participant and therefore indicates which information is used as an input for decision-making processes. Understanding differences in sequen-tial strategies between various design alternatives and users with different backgrounds is valuable for improving designs and at the same time helps in maximizing decision-making outcome. Testing can take place in a laboratory, however, it can also be used in close to normal decision-making situations (e.g. on the computer screen in the decision-makers office, or on the shop floor of a production site).
