Abstract
Biological methane potential studies give significant information about the bio-methanation of specific substrates and help to identify promising alternatives to maize silage. Standardised test systems are often related to high investment costs and exceed the budget of research institutions. The development of an inexpensive alternative can help to set up an extensive biogas research network.
A gravimetric biogas test in commercial PET-flasks was subject of the investigations. Liquid cow manure was used as input material. Results were validated with a standard biogas test following the principles of DIN 38414 S8. Both test systems show comparable biogas production rates, the mean value differ within 5.5 %
