Abstract
Augmented reality describes the computer-based integration of digital, context-sensitive information with the user‘s environment in real time. Leading IT-companies are investing enormous amounts of money into further development of AR-hardware. It will probably take another few years until the technology moves mainstream. In industrial environments AR is already used for assembly and maintenance tasks on an experimental level, which may also raise some promising possibilities for end users. This article introduces an AR-application for self-assembly. In the long term, AR may replace the classic hardcopy construction manual.
