Abstract

Subscriptions are an important revenue source for online newspapers. An unsolved question in this domain is the process of how users consume the provided content, and if there are usage differences between subscribed or unsubscribed users. We analyse with methods from process mining the behaviour of readers of a regional online newspaper by looking at the interactions in terms of page views, searches and form submissions of over half a million visitors over a one-week period. We look for patterns in the ``reading flow'' of all visitors, and visitors who completed a digital subscription during the period in particular.
