Abstract

This paper presents an integrated train protection and information system for regional branch lines. It is designed as a low-cost system for easy implementation on existing minor railway lines. The system consists of two parts, a safety relevant computer-aided operational train control system, which reduces the influence of manual error on the safety of train operation, and a non-safety relevant part which provides dynamic passenger information, internet presentation of the actual operational situation and statistical analysis. The addition of an automatic connection assurance system is the next step. The paper presents the technical implementation of the system and the experiences made during development and daily operation of the system.
