Abstract
Multi-modal traffic information systems are based on conceptual frameworks that need to bridge the gaps in technical infrastructures of different organizations and requirements of heterogeneous stakeholders. Thus this work focuses on the description and implementation of an event-based distributed communication environment that exhibits a high level of scalability, reliability, and usability at low costs. A hierarchical topology including organizational domains is suggested that facilitates event subscription and multi-level user-specific message filtering. Also the organizational implications are covered which are relevant when working with heterogeneous transport providers. An industry-level implementation of the developed environment is presented that shows the benefits of the suggested architectural approach.
