Abstract

In heavy plate steel industry heat treatment furnaces are used to achieve desired material properties of the manufactured plates. In this work such a heat treatment furnace is considered, which is constructed as continuous type and allows the sequential processing of materials in a typical flow direction. Additionally, the observed furnace is considered as a bottleneck in the higher-level production system. Materials being processed are scheduled in advance upon a given plate inventory, whereas technical constraints like the required temperature but also the sequential order of processed plates affect the possible throughput. In this work an agent based simulation model is presented, whereby the logic used of the agents is described.
