A Survey of AI Capabilities in Austrian Supply Chain Management

Abstract

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become an important topic for organizations and in particular in domains that make extensive use of data, such as Supply Chain Management (SCM). Yet, it is becoming more and more clear that the availability of data and the technical implementation of AI-based systems alone do not guarantee their productive use in organizations. Rather, further organizational resources are needed to fuel organizational adaptation, which are captured in the recently presented model for AI Capabilities. Here we report on a survey amongst Austrian managers that analyzed the presence of these AI Capabilities. Based on 44 complete responses, we highlight common AI application domains in Austrian SCM and find that there is early adoption of AI-based systems for SCM. Results also indicate a notable difference in terms of AI Capabilities between organizations that use and do not use AI.
