Sustainable Packaging in E-Commerce

Project Details

Description

The GreenPack project involves the scientific support of a practical test for reusable packaging. Over a six-month test period, FH Upper Austria, in collaboration with Austrian Post and five retail companies—dm, Interspar Weinwelt, Intersport, Tchibo, and Thalia—tested the use of reusable packaging for e-commerce shipping. The goal is to assess the economic and environmental feasibility of reusable packaging. Three different packaging solutions are being tested for various products, from clothing and sports equipment to books. The scientific project outcomes include the development of process analyses and business cases to demonstrate the economic impacts, two online surveys to measure customer acceptance, and a carbon footprint analysis to assess the environmental impacts of reusable packaging.
