LOG-HyFAR - LOG-Hybrid fleets and automation for regional development

Project Details

Description

Expectations are very high for automated vehicles and the new possibilities for using them in mobility and transport fleets. Experts are looking for greater safety, new flexibilities and improved efficiencies in fleet operation, as well as lower emissions and costs. Above all, users expect more flexible and reliable mobility and transport systems in terms of time and location, as well as significantly improved access to mobility.
The possibility of using hybrid fleets will largely depend on the integration of services, vehicles, components and fleets into a system (or into an existing system). Transport and fleet operators in Austria (e.g. the LOI partners: Wiener Linien, Linz Linien, Sabtours; and from the freight transport sector: Hödlmayr, LKW Walter and the partner network of AC OÖ) are interested in the future integration of automated vehicles, but there are still many open questions at a technical and organisational level.
The project HyFAR (Hybrid Fleets and Automation for Regional Development) is dedicated to these questions with the aim of providing Austrian stakeholders in the transport and mobility system with a well-founded knowledge base for the development and integration of hybrid and automated fleets. The objective is divided into
• Service integration: Identifying sustainable deployment scenarios for hybrid automated fleets
• Fleet integration: Conceptual design of an interoperable control centre system for the integration and management of hybrid fleets
• Component integration: Proven components for planning, controlling and operating fleets
• Test integration: Evaluation study and recommendations for action based on the test operation of a control centre for a hybrid fleet

The HyFAR project is therefore analysing the possibilities of automated mobility in various deployment scenarios with the requirements of hybrid fleet operation. The results of the project will enable the further development of control centre functions and components to enable safe, interoperable fleet operation.
The project participants are convinced that the scaling of the pilot projects in particular - from the use of individual vehicles on defined routes to the large-scale operation of automated fleets for entire regions and in sustainable, market-orientated deployment scenarios - represents the next key development step. The results of HyFAR enable upscaling through the further development and integration of future fleet management systems and highlight the key areas of strength and expertise of Austrian players in the mobility and logistics sector.
