Project Details
Description
In the Steyr region (incl. Steyr and Enns valleys), there are no publicly accessible, ongoing Maker activities for children/youth, although the region's strength is its industry. Many regional companies focus on renewable energy technologies or have transformed into renewable energy technology companies. The basic idea of the project is that children and youth (target group 8-14 years) outside of school make rEnewable EnergyTechnologies (EET) through this non-profit, public co-creation space and viceversa advance to Making through rEnewable Energy Technologies (=MEET). For this purpose, children/youth, EET companies, makers, educators and other partners co-create, test, develop and disseminate the content and formats.
The users (children/youths/pupils) increase their technical skills and sustainability know-how through this approach. Excursions to e.g. wind-/hydropower plants, PV parks, or other EET-using production companies or the making directly in some of these companies help them to experience the economic and ecological components of renewable energy technologies and thus to develop enthusiasm for climate protection and technology. This is intended to contribute to the development and maintenance of the required regional top competencies.
4 innovative approaches will be implemented:
1) Development and establishment of junior maker pioneer groups, which are trained to become the makers of renewable energy technologies analogous to the junior teams of sports clubs.
2) Implementation of creative MEET projects for pupils in the existing fractal spaces of the region.
3) Involvement and support of the parents of the users, in order to let MEET projects continue to work at home. For this purpose, an online MEET ideas platform will be developed, too.
4) Establishment of MEET experts who network and co-creatively develop ideas, accompany users and actively involve parents.
Through the strong support of the EET economy (equipment suppliers of the EET operators, renewable utility providers, infrastructure providers, Green Mobility-Green Industry-Green Living) the users can benefit from the know-how of these companies and get to know them as regional companies. This guarantees for the economy that young talents get exited about technology and climate protection and the companies can present themselves as interesting, future employers.
The participation of the core network (KinderUni Upper Austria, Museum Arbeitswelt and Adult Makerspace Steyr-Werke) and other partners guarantees the necessary expertise and experience in working with children/youth. The results are thus also disseminated throughout Upper Austria.
