Project Details

Description

In the project ATROPINE (Fast Track to the Physical Internet) Upper Austrian researchers and industry partners join forces to design a Physical Internet model region. Certain subtopics of the project for example deal with ′smart boxes′, communication with transport means or material handling devices and innovative business models which support the idea of a ′sharing economy′. A major economic benefit of the Physical Internet is that it supports the development of a more efficient and sustainable logistics system to optimize transport costs and to increase productivity. Ecological benefits result from reducing the consumption of energy.

The project is funded by the Upper Austrian government within the programme ′Innovative Upper Austria 2020′ and headed by the Logistikum of the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria. Further research partners are the Johannes Kepler University, RISC Software GmbH, the research group ′Heuristic and Evolutionary Algorithms Laboratory′ in Hagenberg and the ′Verein Netzwerk Logistik′ (VNL). The project startet in December 2015 and is planned for 2 years.
