Description
Botyrococcus braunii (B. braunii) is rich in lipid content and among the most popular algal species for biofuel studies. The lipid production depends on the nutrients in the culture medium. Optimization of the constituents of the culture medium offers great opportunities to maximize the biofuel output. However, the challenges lie in the large parameter space. For example, if one uses 7 chemicals with 10 concentrations for each chemical it will result in 107 possible combinations. Brute force testing of all the combinations is a formidable task. We have developed a Feedback System Control (FSC) scheme, which is especially effective in determine the optimal environment from a large number of possible combinations for cultivating complex biological systems, such as B. braunii. Indeed, only 5 iterations each with 7 parallel tests in each iteration, total 35 test cases, can lead us to the chemically defined optimal culture medium which can produce on average 88% more lipids than that in the commercial standard medium modified bold 3N.Period | 8 Jun 2016 |
