Abstract

Causing about 20% of the annual carbon dioxide emissions, the transport sector is one of the main emitters of greenhouse gases in the EU-27 member countries. This paper should give reply to the questions: What current and long-term political measures are appropriate to reduce CO2-emissions of road freight? What initiatives are taken by the industry for environmentally friendly road transportation? Thereafter political and industry measures are analyzed in respect to their reciprocal impact and hence resulting effects on the road transportation market.
