Abstract

“Just in Time” deliveries through the whole supply chain are seen to be a prerequisite for competitiveness in a globalized world. Traffic congestion and bottlenecks generate sufficient problems which result in negative effects on operating costs, planning of inbound and outbound transportation flows, delivery times etc. Due to these dependencies, organizational measures to reduce congestion or avoid transportation in rush hour periods and the shift to off peak times have to be taken in order to contribute to efficient freight transportation within the supply chain.
