Abstract
Causing about 20% of the annual carbon dioxide emissions, the transport sector is one of the main emitters of greenhouse gases in the EU-27 member countries. The European Commission´s Transport 2050 Strategy calls for breaking the oil dependence of transport and sets a target of 60% greenhouse gas emissions reduction from transport by 2050. In order to reach these goals a big share of alternative fuels is required. The “LNG Masterplan for Rhine-Main-Danube” is a project filed in the last TEN-T MAP Call 2012 which supports a parallel development of the necessary regulatory framework as well as an initial deployment in crucial LNG-terminal and LNG-powered vessel infrastructure.
