Abstract
Future scenarios for the year 2030 are developed on the basis of general and logistical
“determining factors” considering macro and micro economical developments and challenges.
In this context the main challenges for the discipline of logistics and as a result
the prospective potentials of logistics for a sustainable development of a business location
are identified, analyzed and interpreted. The study focuses on Austria and should
initiate a holistic discussion in terms of the three dimensions of sustainable development:
economic growth, environment protection and social development. As a consequence
political and entrepreneurial decision makers should place measures – based on the results
of the study – for a long-term strategy to secure competitiveness of Austria in an
international context until 2030 and should be aware of the potential of logistics to reach
this goal. The center of attention of the underlying paper is the demonstration of future
scenarios for the year 2030, and the way logistics will be influenced by future developments
and how it can account for sustainability.
