Abstract

We aim to demonstrate AmiQuin, a virtual mannequin, which deploys an Ambient Intelligence (AmI) system within the retail shopping environment. The overall goal of the AmiQuin is to replace a traditional mannequin within a shop window in order to enhance a user's shopping experience. This enhancement is gained by reacting to a user's presence and thereafter by presenting personalized additional information. The AmiQuin is visualized by a 3D avatar on a large TV screen. This demonstration represents the second iteration within an User-Centered Design (UCD) approach. We will will allow hands on experiences with an advanced version of the virtual avatar. The demonstration will consist of a large TV screen visualizing the AmiQuin, which reacts to people standing in front of it. It allows participants to interact with it and provide different kinds of additional information. To provide insight into the inner workings of the AmiQuin prototype, a second screen will show a real time visualization of the underlying face detector and head tracker components.
