Porosity determination in CFRP specimens by means of pulsed thermography combined with effective thermal diffusivity models

Abstract

Thermal diffusivity imaging has the potential to reflect the existence of inhomogeneous material properties which are correlated to increased porosity. For calibration of the thermal diffusivity values the porosity were measured using Computed-Tomography, which yields data on the porosity as well as on the pore morphology. The experimental results agree to the predicted values calculated from the 'Dethermalization Theory' combined with the corresponding microstructural information as far as the porosity contents are higher than 2%.
