Abstract

This paper continues to develop the fundamental requirements of a living lab as social experiment on the multistage integration of Social Assistive Robots in an AAL environment with caregiver capacity shortage and elder people living with different physical and mental stages. Starting from the results of a pre-study conducted on 130 dependent living elderly in Austria retirement houses, this paper presents a process-costs-calculation of Social Assistive Robots (SAR) introduction in the process of eldercare ("CareSAR") and suggests a program to optimize the benefit of these solutions under the aspects of shortage of caregivers, high quality of medical care and ethics.
