Modernization and upgrading of existing plants-a decisive factor in the field of hot strip mills

Stahl HSM approached Siemens VAI to install its Voestalpine facility with new automation system and replace the entire automation of its seven finishing stands of the hot strip mill, including high-level functions of the instrumentation and control system. Siemens used SIROLL^CIS HM solution and also supplied the cylinders for the hydraulic adjusting equipment of the roll stands. Siemens also installed a new power coiler at Arcelor-Mittal Fos-sur-Mer HSM, after the preliminary investigation including a thorough analysis of the coiling process based on extensive finite element modeling (FEM). The coiler and pinch roll were pre-assembled and partially tested at the Siemens VAI workshop and the comprehensive on-site integrated tests were carried out with hydraulic fluid and automatic systems functioning to ensure a smooth start-up.
