Mapping supply chain change - A system dynamics view

Abstract

The automotive industry has experienced a period of revolutionary changes since its inception. Nowadays, industry must deal with several changes simultaneously. For some industry actors, or entire industry sectors these changes might become an existential problem or revolutionary opportunity. Considering the major factors affecting the automotive supply chain (SC) green transition, we outline a management approach dealing with assessing the resilience of interconnected SCs based on system dynamics (SD) modeling. Necessary steps to map out the
crucial factors affecting the whole sector with SCs are discussed. Regarding the methodological approach, preliminary draft of causal loop diagram of selected variables regarding green transition of automotive industry is introduced, which can be further discussed, and which is the first step to develop an SD model. Such an SD model should help us to evaluate dynamics in the automotive supply chain and to derive recommendations for policy and decision makers on how to succeed in this fast-changing industry.
