Abstract
The development of international Supply Chain networks and the logistics strategies behind them are one of the main driving forces within freight transportation. This papers purpose is to give an overview and describe the research gap in literature and scientific community about how logistics strategies interrelate with freight traffic transportation. The paper is based on a broad literature review and presents the findings of investigations and research work from scientist in this field. The results show that there still exists a lack of being able mapping the interrelationships. The development of such a model would be a useful and important contribution for improving efficiency of transportation flows. Efficiency is defined as increasing utilization of trucks and shifting within modal split from trucks to other modes of transportation. To close the gap within this research field an approach for a model based on a systemic approach will be developed to be able to picture the interrelationships. This should be a contribution to scientific community as well as for industry and practitioners for further improvements within efficient transportation flows.
