Abstract

Various lignocellulosic agricultural residues like wheat straw are composed mainly of glucose (cellulose) and xylose (hemicellulose). In a biorefinery a variety of products like fuel (bioethanol), chemicals and energy can be produced from sugar (glucose and xylose) obtained from lignocellulosic agricultural residue. The workgroup Bioethanolics at the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences in Wels focused mainly their studies on the bioethanol production within a biorefinery. Further concepts were developed for the xylose as feedstock for the next generation biodiesel production and for the residues as feedstock for a biogas plant
