Abstract

Using cross-laminated timber (CLT) for folded surface structures enables a high degree of constructional efficiency and enables designers to create large span structures and reduce weight of structural components at the same time. The Department of Structural Design and Timber Engineering (1TI) presents results from its ongoing research activities in this field and describes strategies for prefabrication, safe transport and assembly as well as developments for both fixed and articulated joint details that are usable in folded CLT structures. Findings are applied to an experimental building design, which will be realized in the near future.
