title = "Electrical traction system implementation in a SCADA environment",
abstract = "In this paper we show how diakotics technique stands out as one of the best approaches to simulate and model a traction utility's day-to-day system isolation-restoration switching programs. The presented approach splits a large complex traction network into smaller subsections that are solved independently, then reformed and optimised to the original network, while considering various conditions such as normal, abnormal and emergency. Solutions of network electrical subsections are combined to produce and map the correct representation of the network model switchgear to deenergized or energized the network state in real-time, at any given time. The proposed technique provides 'safety first approach tool' for a system switching, switching isolation- restoration steps, representation of the network's isolation and energized system that mimics practical cases. The approach has been implemented as diakoptics technique based automated traction simulation tool. The tool allows electrical network bypass, extension and safety critical system improvement requirements. Also, has been verified and implemented in Adelaide tram traction systems. Further, it has been used as a familiarization, training and desktop practice switching environment for new employees.",
