Dust from a secondary copper smelter: application of air classification for improved dust recycling

Publikation: Beitrag in Buch/Bericht/TagungsbandKonferenzbeitrag

Abstract

The off-gas from a secondary copper smelting furnace is de-dusted by a fabric filter. When the separated dust is partly recycled to the furnace not only Cu but also unwanted volatile elements like Pb and Zn are recycled. The classification experiments showed a distinct size dependence of the concentrations of these elements in the dust. Thus, air classification could be applied to optimize dust recycling by separation of the dust into two fractions: a coarse fraction for recovery of Cu and a Cu-depleted fine fraction which is discharged and treated externally to recover Zn and Pb.
