Abstract

This paper describes the experimentation being carried out by the EC-funded COSMO project, whose aim is to install and test a set of innovative traffic management systems in real-life conditions. A rigorous programme of measurements is planned in three Pilot Sites, in Austria, Italy and Sweden. Among the services to be installed are a Traffic-adapted Luminous Path system, .an Enhanced Intersection Logistics system for buses, and a Congestion Avoidance system. The first stage of operation of the Austrian testing is currently underway. This involves the installation of enhanced illumination of the approach to a road works site on the Vienna Ring Road, and warning messages for motorist. The preliminary results indicate positive feedback from both the road operator and drivers
