Build quality analysis of additively manufactured locally endless fiber reinforced polyamide

Publikation: KonferenzbeitragAbstractBegutachtung

Abstract

Introduction:
Additive manufacturing methods like fused deposition modelling have become increasingly popular due to their
inherent possibility to reduce material usage and energy consumption as well as their possibility to produce
components without the need for expensive production equipment. In past years additional functionalisation in
terms of integration of endless fibers were developed and studied.
Within this work, additive manufactured polyamide coupons were locally reinforced with a 1,5k endless carbon fiber
roving to increase the bending stiffness and modify its thermophysical properties.
It could be shown that a porosity gradient exists within the manufactured samples not only within the build-plate
plane but also in build height direction. This gradient was detected using automated grey-scale analysis of section
cuts generated using three-dimensional computational tomography.
