An Initiative to promote eco-friendly Inland Waterway Transport: Raising Awareness through Education & Training

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to provide evidence that there is a lack of training offers for eco-friendly transport modes. In addition, demand for specific training offers is investigated. Therefore, qualitative empiric research using focus groups and expert interviews in education and industry which focus on logistics are analyzed. Results suggest that a reason for the low share of eco-friendly transports mode may be the lack of education. Moreover, secondary, tertiary education and the industry consider eco-friendly transport as essential and thus, demand for interactive training offers which connect theory and practice.
