An Accurate and Efficient Measurement System for Identifying Conductive Textile Traces

Abstract

Electrically conductive textiles have attracted considerable attention in recent years. However, these textiles come with a unique set of challenges, particularly in terms of their lifecycle management, environmental impact, and waste disposal processes. This paper presents a combined measurement approach of resonance frequency measurements and optical inspection, allowing for rapid and autonomous analysis for the subsequent separation of textiles with and without conductive properties on the surface or for integrated conductive traces. This system is designed to be low cost and can be used to streamline large-scale textile sorting operations, leading to more sustainable and efficient waste management practices in the future. The results obtained highlight the need and potential of the combined measurement method for smart conductive textiles, especially in the context of recycling and sustainable material management.
