A systemic model for the interdependencies between logistics strategy and transportation movements

This papers purpose is to describe how logistics strategy, transportation and environmental impacts do interrelate with each other. The logistics strategy developed by a company has huge effects on the operative logistical level of the company and deeply interrelates with transportation decisions as transport mode, frequency, utilization etc. are affected. The definition of a logistics strategy is essential for gaining advantages and being able to differentiate from competitors in the market. Therefore it is this papers objective to present a new approach based on a causal loop diagram trying to picture and model the interrelationships between logistics, transportation and the environment from a systemic point of view with the overall goal of higher transport efficiency and shifts within modal split from truck to other modes of transport for a sustainable and environmental friendly movement of goods.
