Abstract

The upcoming digital transformation is a present key challenge for companies. Nevertheless this key challenge is also a megatrend which goes along with great opportunities like production- and process optimization and possible new data driven business models. Companies irrespective of branch and size have to follow a structural approach for coping with this megatrend successfully. For the implementation task it is essential to build up a fruitful surrounding inside the company. However, a strategy and a guided procedure is needed. Tracing research is necessary for being up to date with future technologies and this is useful for formulating the strategy. Using a maturity model for monitoring and structuring the change process is highly recommended. With such a model the investigation of the status quo of the digitalization level and the formulation of the company objective of the digitalization level is supported.
