N2 - Energy saving is a critical issue in sensor networks with limited energy resources. The energy consumption of a sensor node is dominated by the hardware and the communication protocols. It depends on the tasks a sensor node has to perform. We grouped the sensor nodes in power-aware and computation-aware nodes. We use an energy efficient power management protocol for wake up and sleep states of the sensor node. With the shown architecture it is possible to use very simple and low power sensor nodes and others with higher computation capabilities. The sensor nodes are controlled by a central node, which is the gateway to the internet.
