Enabling Individualisation and Team work in Virtual Learning Environments

Beschreibung

In this paper we report on two features of virtual learning systems that have been integrated in the SCHOLION learning environment. SCHOLION (Scalable Technologies for Teleteaching/learning) has been developed to overcome an essential deficiency of current tele-learning and tele-teaching environments, namely providing both, individual design and access of learning materials, and collaborative and highly interactive learning, without loss of performance and supporting direct feedback between learners and teachers, hence overall enhancing Quality of Service (QoS). The enabling features are particular annotations (e.g., text comments, questions, media files), individual link management, adapting, sharing and cascading of views. These features are part of the profile concept. We review existing solutions with respect to the addressed features and their integration, detail the concept and its implementation in SCHOLION. Due to the integration users can benefit from traditional teleteaching/learning features and concepts from computer-supported co-operative work.
